"This is a story of how I proposed to Agnes. It is from an email that I sent to a friend. I thought that it might be fun to share with others, so I hope that you enjoy it!"

"We get along so well, that I sort of knew that I had to marry her. So when she asked me if she could take me to Ecuador for my birthday, I rushed to the antique store and picked out a stand-in ring to propose with. The ring is white gold and aquamarine, which is her birthstone for Sagitarius, and it came in a quirky little box wrapped in decorative paper.
We flew to Guayaquil and first stayed with her Aunt and Uncle. I didn't know any Spanish, so it was a little different at first, but of course I am a fast learner and I was able to communicate with most people by the end of the trip. Agnes' Uncle and cousin play guitar, so I communicated with them mostly through our Latin influenced jam sessions. That Saturday they had all of the family come over and we had a big celebration with a Dancing contest (that we won) and I had to perform my new found finger picking skills.
It was a lot to absorb, so we left from there and travelled through Quito into the Cloud Forest. We stayed at the Bella Vista Reserve where the humming birds would buzz by you as you walked through the Mountain trails. Our cabin was a 20 minute hike from the main lodge, so the 2nd day there I asked her if I could run ahead to use the bathroom. She told me to go ahead, so I ran down the hill hoping to get my cell phone and ring ready for her waiting by the Mountain overlook outside our cabin.
About half way down the hill I realized that the cabin keys were in my coat that Agnes was carrying. So I stopped and prayed to God and my guardian angels to help make everything work out to be a special moment. As I only had about 20 minutes to propose and then we had to catch a horse-back riding trip.
So I continued down the path and decided that I would wait for her at the bottom of the hill and try to sneak out the ring and phone. But when I got to the cabin I heard someone moving around inside. I climbed the stairs and found the door open as the Columbian boy was cleaning up the rooms. So I grabbed the ring and cell phone and sat down on the bench outside the cabin, overlooking the Mountains.
Agnes came down the trail unsuspecting of my adventure and decided to make fun of the fact that I was sitting in nature with my cell phone. So she sat down next to me and I initiated the mp3 player on my phone to play her favorite song, 'Slave to love' by Roxy Music. I had downloaded it just before we left and it started playing pretty loud.
She was shocked that not only was my phone playing music, but that it was playing her favorite song. So I quickly came around the other side of the bench and got down on my knee. I pulled the box out of my pocket and she gave me a confused look, 'What are you doing?' she asked slightly startled.
I had totally surprised her! I told her I loved her and wanted to marry her and she cried and said, 'Yes!' She was even more surprised when she found out that I had already asked permission from her father. But funny enough, her mother later got mad that her father didn't share the secret.
So it all seems to be working out. I got her another ring when we got back. It is an Antique Style filigree Platinum ring with a blue Sapphire instead of a Diamond." |
